Alison & Nik’s wedding was an amazing event. It was a blending of their Serbian and Ukrainian cultures. In the morning Serbian traditions were observed. The girls dressed up Alison’s brother as a fake bride to be presented to Nik (he was rejected in favour of Alison). Rakija brandy was passed around and drunk out of a custom made flask. I tried some and, although strong tasting, it was refreshing!
The couple had two wedding ceremonies. The morning was an intimate backyard civil ceremony at Nik’s family’s house. Family and friends in attendance formed a circle as the vows took place. Nik was overjoyed and laughed at many parts of the ceremony. Next, the Ukrainian ceremony was held at St. Josephat Ukrainian Catholic Church. I had never been there before and was amazed at the grandeur inside.
Their reception was held at the Serbian Hall. A shot of Rakija was given to each guest as they entered. Everyone was treated to wonderful food and plenty of drinks. A Ukrainian tradition is to do everything three times for good luck. So often toasts ended up being done thrice in a row to the delight of everyone! Thank you to my second shooter Wil for being there helping the whole way. Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations Alison and Nikola!
