I was SO excited for Adian & Michael’s Medicine Lake (Jasper) engagement session. I actually hadn’t decided on Medicine Lake until right before their shoot – I don’t really scout. A lot of photographers search out locations ahead of time, or arrive to a destination location a day or two early in order to find the perfect spot, which I sometimes do if I can!
I’ve learned over the years that one of the best things I can do on any given shoot is to go with the flow. Drop me in any situation, and I need to assess the light, find a good clean background, look for interesting elements I can use. Sure – sometimes it works better than other. In the case of Aidan & Michael’s Medicine Lake Jasper engagement photos, I had driven by this spot a couple of days before. There were a few spots on the road up to the lake that caught my eye. In the end we hiked to different spots than I had planned, and randomly stopped on the side of the road. I didn’t know if this spot would even work out! It sure looked pretty so I crossed my fingers.
Sometimes you just have to wing it. Sometimes that’s where the magic is.
I was delighted that Aidan & Michael were SO chill and laid back. We all really got along well and enjoyed the process of creating these images together. We are so lucky to live so close to Jasper!
