Today we’re going to discuss bridal style, and take you to a boutique bridal shop in Edmonton.

Sisters Ashley & Nicole of Delica Bridal opened their shop a bit early for me to interview them and take some photos of the store. These two sisters are stylish, sophisticated, fun, and passionate about their work. They devote themselves to helping brides find the dress that is right for them.

What are the bridal trends for 2012?
Illusion necklines, cap sleeves, lace, and colour are trends for 2012. With a lot of gowns you can order extra material to make matching sleeves. Strapless is still in style, but one shoulder dresses are going out.

What are current trends in bridesmaids dresses?
Matching ivory, green, neutrals, pastel, and lace.

What is the current average for wedding dress price?
According to Wedding Bells, the average cost of a wedding gown is around $1600. Couture dresses may have a higher average ($2000-$3000). At Delica, prices range from $1000 to $6000.

Edmonton wedding dress shopping

Why should a bride choose to visit Delica when shopping for her wedding dress?
We have exclusive lines, some are even exclusive to Alberta. For certain brands brides have been going to Toronto and New York – now they don’t have to. The shop is open, the dresses are spaced out, and not in plastic bags so you can see them. We don’t want the experience to be overwhelming. There’s no pressure. You can try the dress on multiple times.

What advice do you have for getting the right dress, especially for plus-sized brides?
Fit is really important, and everyone is different. We have samples of some dresses in plus sizes, one from each brand that offers plus size so that prides have something to try on and have flexibility for price. If you are plus sized, have an open mind. Try different options on, don’t get discouraged. Try on each silhouette to narrow it down.

How much time does a bride need to get her dress in?
A lot of stores say 9-10 months. Since Delica carries lines that are exclusive to us, we only need 12-16 weeks to ship and 4 weeks for alterations. To order the right size, know your body. If you are planning to lose weight before the wedding, ask advice about what size to order.

What advice to you have for brides?
Bring 1, 2 or max 3 people to support and help you. There is a dress for everyone but not necessarily at our store. Keep an open mind, and you will find it! Also, be realistic. Stick to your budget.

You can find Delica at #108 2952 Ellwood Drive (780-465-3604) or online at www.delicabridal.com. Bridal lines they carry include Jenny Yoo, Lazaro, Alvina Valenta, and Lillen Bridal. As I left, the shop was hopping. It’s a very busy boutique, so make sure to visit soon!
