The famous quote by John Lennon was never more appropriate than when applied to Nicolette & Percy: Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.
When I first met Nicolette, she was graduating from a program here in Edmonton at the U of A, their beautiful son was turning one! And life was ticking along. Fast forward to almost a year and half ago, and Nicolette and Percy were meeting with me to plan their wedding, the date set for September 2017. Now with two beautiful children, wedding planning took the forefront! In the time since then, Nicolette & Percy welcomed a charming third child, and were preparing for their September nuptials when life happened yet again. An illness in the family caused Nicolette and Percy to scrap plans for their September wedding, and move up the ceremony to February with Art Gallery of Alberta wedding photos. I took their call just a week or so in advance of the new date they wanted to choose, and immediately jumped to action to help them quickly plan a ceremony so that they could exchange vows surrounded by all of the important people in their lives.
Nicolette & Percy’s wedding wasn’t what or when they had planned, but as an observer of their wedding I can honestly say that these two amazing people epitomize why I love my job as much as I do. To be present at their intimate wedding ceremony in their living room, with only close family and friends surrounding them…it reminded me that LOVE above all else is what’s important at a wedding. We all know this, but often get caught up in the details and minutiae that are involved with weddings. The wedding that they had planned with more decorations, more people, more food, a different dress, more photos….wouldn’t have been any more special than what they shared on that cold February afternoon. Weddings come in all shapes and sizes. Wedding photographers are taught in workshops to only blog the work that they are most proud of, the work that will attract their ‘ideal’ couple. That’s exactly why I choose to share so many diverse weddings – my ‘ideal’ couple are people like Nicolette and Percy – couples who face adversity together with a stunning amount of grace, and who truly value each other and their families above all else. All kind of couples from all backgrounds and walks of life, each with their own unique love story.
To Nicolette, Percy, and their three adorable children…thank you so much for choosing me (several times now) to be a part of your life. I wish you all so much joy in the years to come!
